Abp. Rummel trio sweeps Elite Football honors

Selecting the most outstanding players among the high school talent in the Archdiocese of New Orleans for the Clarion Herald’s Elite Football Team this year was indeed challenging.
Unlike picking an all-district team, choosing the best athletes from among the 11 Catholic high schools is especially difficult when so many of the teams experienced success. It’s a matter of supply and demand.

De La Salle enjoyed its best season since 1961 by winning nine games. But the school placed just one player on the team.

Just one player was chosen from the 2014 Division I champion, Jesuit.

No one from Archbishop Hannan and Pope John Paul II was selected, although the two fielded future standouts.

But that is the nature of being considered “Elite.” Those represented by the Clarion Herald are truly the best of the best.

COACH OF THE YEAR:
Jay Roth led Archbishop Rummel to the Catholic League title and into the Division I finals while notching his 200th coaching win.

OUTSTANDING PLAYER (OFFENSE): Senior quarterback Chase Fourcade guided the Raiders’ balanced attack to an 11-2 record, a sweep of the district schedule and two playoff victories.

OUTSTANDING PLAYER (DEFENSE): Rummel fielded one of its most talented defensive teams ever, led by senior linebacker Derrick Munson, who posted 158 tackles and two interceptions.
