Basketball and peace go hand in hand
The 2015 Youth Peace Summit and second annual Basketball Tournament was held July 1-2 on the campus of Loyola University. Approximately 75 youth between the ages of 17-25 registered for the event.
Through the Peace League of New Orleans, young men have the opportunity to develop skills on and off the basketball court through weekly basketball tournaments. The competition also includes workshops on job skills, education, non-violent conflict resolution, leadership and breaking the lifestyle cycle of drugs and violence, said Kristina Gibson, director of Catholic Charities’ Isaiah 43 program.
