With ‘assist’ from Philip Hannan, 3, Abp. Hannan rehab pavilion opens
The great-great nephew of Archbishop Philip Matthew Hannan – 3-year-old Philip Michael Hannan – was on hand Aug. 12 for the blessing of the $7 million, 21,000-square-foot Archbishop Philip M. Hannan Rehabilitation Pavilion at Chateau de Notre Dame.
Archbishop Gregory Aymond dedicated the new facility, which will help patients make a smooth transition from hospital to home. Patients will have physical, occupational and speech therapy available at the rehab facility, and the goal is to return them to their homes quickly, said Wayne Plaisance, president and CEO of Chateau de Notre Dame.
The pavilion has 30 private rooms with access to the state-of-the-art rehab equipment. Little Phil’s father, J.T. Hannan, left, said his great uncle, who served as archbishop of New Orleans from 1965-88, convinced him to move to New Orleans 25 years ago. Hence, his son’s name.
