Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference set for Jan. 8-10

The adage “there is strength in numbers” applies to those throughout Gulf Coast region who are involved in the work of faith formation and atechesis, and the 2015 Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference (formerly known as the Johannes Hofinger Conference) Jan. 8-10 will offer numerous programs to strengthen them in their ministry.
The conference will be held at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.
More than 1,000 priests, deacons, Catholic school teachers, parish catechists and RCIA team members – representing dioceses that span the Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida – will be among those gathered to celebrate their faith and partake of the knowledge and wisdom to be shared by presenters and authors from across the country.
One highlight of the event is the special clergy track on Jan. 8, which is open to all priests and deacons. Following the 3 p.m. opening prayer, Paulist Father Steven Bell will share his expertise on the effective use of stories, followed at 4 p.m. by Father Paul Turner on what it takes to witness one’s faith effectively. The final clergy track presentation will be Father Michael Carrano’s 4:50 p.m. talk on “Leadership in Religious Education.” A dinner will follow at 5:45 p.m.
All three priests will deliver major addresses.
Registration will take place Jan. 8 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Kenner, where sessions sponsored by Catholic publishers will be held from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., followed by a welcome reception at 8 p.m. Conference activities will resume Jan. 9 with a 7:30 a.m. Mass.
The conference will offer numerous exhibits hosted by publishers and other vendors of catechetical and faith-formation resources, from early childhood through adulthood.
Breakout sessions featuring nationally known presenters will start Jan. 9 at 10:30 a.m. on topics ranging from spirituality to social media. A number of sessions will be offered more than once.
