A bumper crop of seminarians
With the start of orientation for the 2014-15 academic year, Notre Dame Seminary welcomed 43 new seminarians from across the country, its largest incoming class in nearly 15 years. The incoming classes of recent years have averaged 20 to 25 students, said Father James Wehner, rector. There is a national trend of increased priestly vocations, but Notre Dame Seminary is seeing dioceses increase the number of seminarians it sends to Notre Dame, and several dioceses are sending men for formation to New Orleans for the first time in many years. Enrollment to start the year is 115, up about 30 from 2012.
