Emma Filostrat, a fifth-grader at St. Mary Magdalen School in Metairie, had no idea when she walked into the cafeteria toward the end of the school year that she would have anything other than lunch. But as she was eating, her father, Navy Commander John Filostrat, walked quietly over to her table and embraced his daughter, who had no idea he was coming to New Orleans. Filostrat is stationed as director of the Joint Task Force Guantanamo Public Affairs at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Afterwards, Emma celebrated with her overjoyed classmates. The room erupted in cheers of “USA, USA” during her father’s visit.
