Info night May 20 for Clarion Herald’s Italy pilgrimage

The three pastors serving as spiritual directors of the Clarion Herald’s 12-day pilgrimage to Italy Oct. 20-31 will host an informational night May 20 at 7 p.m. at Mary Queen of Peace Parish in Mandeville.
Father Ronald Calkins, moderator of the Clarion Herald and pastor of Mary Queen of Peace, will offer a detailed look at the pilgrimage and answer questions. He will be joined by Msgr. Frank Giroir, pastor of St. Anselm Parish in Madisonville, and Father Rodney Bourg, pastor of Most Holy Trinity Parish in Covington.

The pilgrimage is the first sponsored by the Clarion Herald in a decade.

“We’re very excited to be leading this pilgrimage because we believe it not only will be an inspiring trip but also one that will strengthen a person’s Catholic faith,” Father Calkins said. “It’s one thing to read or watch a video about the wonders of Venice, Florence, Assisi and Rome, but actually being there to experience those first-hand can be a source of blessing.”

During the pilgrimage, pilgrims will visit Venice, Padua, Florence, Assisi, Sorrento, Herculaneum and Rome, and they will have a general audience with Pope Francis, if he is in residence.

Mass will be celebrated daily, including inside St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

The full itinerary for the 12-day pilgrimage is available on the Unitours website at http://www.unitours.com/client/ClarionHeraldItaly.pdf.

“The last time the Clarion Herald sponsored a pilgrimage was well before Hurricane Katrina,” Father Calkins said. “I believe there will be strong interest from people in the archdiocese who want to experience religious sites that are foundational to our Catholic faith.”

Clarion Herald advertising/marketing director MJ Cahill also is available to answer questions at 596-3034.

Cost of the pilgrimage is $4,799 per person, based on double occupancy. Tips to tour guides, drivers and dining room staff of $118 are not
included. A single supplement is an extra $782.

Most major credit cards are accepted for payment. International departure taxes and current fuel surcharges are included in the price. Final payment is due 60 days before departure.
