Blessing the Fest
On a crystal clear day, Archbishop Gregory Aymond took the stage April 12 at Jackson Square and prayed for the success of the French Quarter Festival. He also blessed jazz clarinetist Tim Laughlin, far right.
The archbishop asked the crowd, “What committee was in charge of the weather? As you know, God is the one in charge of the weather! We ask God’s blessings upon all of you. ... May the music help us to see the deeper meaning of life.” The fest featured 1,400 musicians, 274 acts, 21 stages, 60 restaurants and 2,000 volunteers. In 2012, it had an economic impact of $259.5 million.
