    LOYOLA UNIVERSITY, Kurt Bindewald, associate director of the Office of Mission and Ministry, recently received the Blessed Frassati Award given by the Archdiocese of New Orleans CYO/Young Adult Ministry office in recognition of his long-standing dedication to youth and young adult ministry.
    ST. SCHOLASTICA ACADEMY, English teacher, Elizabeth Tocco, was presented with the annual 2011-12 Scholastica Teaching Award. Seniors were invited to nominate a teacher who influenced their lives through prayer, work, study and community. Hannah Baker nominated Tocco for her dedication to the ministry of teaching, exemplifying the Benedictine tradition and openly illustrating devotion to SSA and her students.

    LOYOLA UNIVERSITY NEW ORLEANS’ Bateman team won its sixth national title since 2000 at a Bateman competition for public relations students in Minneapolis, Minn., sponsored by the Public Relations Society of America. Team members Maggie Moore, Nhi Tieu, Jack Lien, Wade Kimbro and Alexandra Broussard created the “Choose Dat, Not Dis” public relations campaign for United Way Worldwide to advocate healthy lifestyles and help reduce childhood obesity. The team earned a $2,500 cash prize for the win. They partnered with chefs from award-winning GW Fins and Le Foret restaurants to create healthy dishes with New Orleans flavor and worked with Rouses to promote healthy “Choose Dat, Not Dis” options and collaborated with Jazzmen Rice who will continue the campaign in national marketing efforts for brown rice in 2013.
