Men take next step to 2018 diaconate ordination
Archbishop Gregory Aymond instituted 21 members of the 2018 Diaconate Formation Group into the ministry of lector Aug. 10 at Our Lady of Divine Providence Church in Metairie.
The ministry of lector is the second step in the four-step formation process ending with ordination in 2018 as a permanent deacon.
The third step, which will come next year, is installation into the ministry of acolyte.
The rite was celebrated on the Feast of St. Lawrence, deacon and martyr.
As lectors, the men are to proclaim the Word during liturgical assemblies.
