A blue-letter day for St. Andrew School!
The St. Andrew the Apostle School community danced with joy Oct. 10 upon learning the school had been designated a 2013 Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School of Excellence, the highest honor bestowed by Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, Inc.
Curriculum coordinator Patience Clasen led a second line with blue-decked umbrellas, followed by principal Nicole Alvarez. The school already had received re-accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
“This is really a great validation for us that we have come a long way in a few short years,” Alvarez said. “We still have a lot of work to do, but we are headed in the right direction.” The school has an enrollment of about 500 students and a 45-member faculty. The school received top marks in nine categories, including “school culture.” Alvarez said: “The visiting team felt the school was a community, and our kids and teachers really wanted to be here. They felt it from the moment they walked in the door.”
